Welcome to our St. Mary’s College of Maryland Club Sports. Below, you’ll find some of our amazing St. Mary’s club teams! General clubs and organizations can be found on the clubs page. Our club sports seahawks share a love for their sport and a passion for the St. Mary’s community. They’re always eager for new members, so check them out! As you look through these teams, you’ll note a “Commitment Level” rating from 1-5 based on how involved the team expects their members to be.


Co-ed Climbing

Climbing Club is a great way to get extra climbing hours at the rock wall. The club provides its members with climbing exercises and games that enhance their strength, stamina, and climbing ability. Climbing Club also travels out of SMCM one-two times a year for a Rock Climbing Trip, which gives climbers the opportunity to climb outdoors in various places across America. The club is not just for experienced climbers; they welcome beginners and climbers of any body type! Anyone can join with a turned in medical packet and physical.

Climbing meets every week for team and solo climbing exercises/games outside of normal rock climbing hours. This added time allows club climbers an extra hour of climb time that non-club members do not receive.

St. Mary’s Ultimate Team (SMUT)

SMUT is a casual ultimate freebee team that is welcoming and open to anyone with a focus on community building. There are occasional tournaments and games that the club attends that are primarily for to the more dedicated club members but is still an opportunity for all who join.

Practices Mondays and Wednesdays on Admissions Field from 4:30-6pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-6pm on the Club Sports Field. Game times are variable, but on the weekends.

St. Mary’s Fencing Team

Come have fun and break a sweat while learning one of the most exhilarating and fast Olympic sports! The St. Mary's Fencing Club provides student-coached instruction (with occasional guest instruction) for all 3 sword types (foil, sabre, and epee) and offers participation in collegiate tournaments at colleges in the MD/VA/DC area. No equipment or experience necessary!

Meeting times are TBD, but there is usually a weekday evening practice (previously Fridays at 5:30/6pm) and a weekend afternoon practice (Saturday at 1pm).

Hawkettes

The SMCM Hawkettes are a dance-based cheer team that performs at both Men’s and Women’s basketball games during halftime. Along with their halftime performances, the Hawkettes also participate in a variety of on-campus events, including Relay for Life, World Carnival, and Hawkathon. The team prides themselves in being a great representation of St. Mary’s school spirit and the St. Mary’s way. In order to join, you need to audition/try out.

Practices happen on Mondays and Thursdays from 8pm-10pm in the Movement Room.

Equestrian

THE EQUESTRIAN CLUB IS OPEN TO ANY STUDENT INTERESTED IN BECOMING INVOLVED WITH HORSES! THEY PRACTICE AT “A MOMENT IN TIME” FARM AND HELP OUT AT THE BARN WHEN A SHOW IS HOSTED THERE, PREPARING JUMPS, CLEANING UP THE AREA, AND MAKING THE ARENA LOOK NICE. IF ANYONE OUTSIDE OF THE CLUB IS INTERESTED, THEY MAY PARTICIPATE IN THE SHOW AS WELL! EQUESTRIANS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN COMPETING WILL LESSON TWICE A WEEK AND COMPETE IN IHSA SHOWS. ANYONE CAN JOIN.

Weekly lessons at “A Moment in Time” Farm, team lessons on Friday evenings, and occasional competitions.

Co-ed Soccer

Come out and enjoy playing soccer no matter your skill level! Club soccer invites players of any skill level from varsity level players and players who have never touched a soccer ball. The club soccer team is co-ed and will sometimes split into groups depending on skill and comfort levels. In the spring, the team often organizes a few semi-competitive games against rival schools club teams. Club soccer is welcoming to everyone. Anyone can join.

Club soccer meets in the afternoons and evenings 2-3 times a week. Practices are generally on the club field (guam field) or the tennis courts when it rains.

Ski/Snowboard Club

SMCM Ski/Snowboard Club is for any students looking to ski/ride together! Whether you don’t have any experience, or have been skiing your whole life, come join this club sport! Along with meetings and trips, Ski/Snowboard club holds a few events in the off season of winter sports every year. anyone can join.

Ski and Snowboard Club currently has no set meeting time, but during the winter sports season, they plan to meet once a month or 1-2 week(s) prior to any ski trips.

SMCM Club Softball works to create a community that practices and plays softball together in a friendly environment. Anyone can join.

Co-ed Softball currently does not have any set meeting times, as meetings will be determined based off of member availability. Practices will take place on the North Fields Softball Field.

Club Windsurfing

Windsurfing is a challenging blend of surfing, sailing, and flying that is one of the most rewarding sports to undertake. The St. Mary’s Windsurfing club provides a variety of gear, from beginner gear to top of the line, so progression is easy. Whenever it is windy, you will find club members of all abilities challenging themselves and having the time of their lives. Anyone can join, but all members must be physically fit enough to pass the required safety test (a mile swim).

If member of exec board is at the shanty, they will notify other members so others can learn or join- meeting times are fluid. Important details and information is discussed and shared in a club group chat.

offshore sailing

St. Mary’s offshore sailing team is an inclusive group of students from all skill levels who are excited about getting out on the water and learning about sailing keelboats! The team practices almost everyday on the St. Mary’s River and competes in offshore sailing races, such as the Frostbites at Solomon’s Islands and the overnight Governor’s Cup. All interested future sailors are encouraged to join.

The team meets at least 5 days a week at the waterfront. The times and days are determined by all of the members at the start of each semester.
